Sundowner Drinks

A dear friend (hi Jodi!) introduced me to the term sundowner drinks, and I’ve been stuck on it ever since. Meant to describe that sliver of time when you sneak away, either at the end of the days obligations or taking a break from them, to sit and watch the sun go down with a beverage in hand.

Now, normally my version of a cocktail is pouring some tequila in a cup or trusting the bottle of natural wine that a more informed friend brings by, but for the sake of this space, I’ll copy and paste in a cocktail that even I can’t screw up.

It’d look real pretty in these Mazama glasses, all handblown in Portland, OR, and all ready to be part of your new sundowner tradition.

The Siesta

  • 2 ounces silver tequila

  • 1/2 ounce Campari

  • 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice

  • 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed grapefruit juice

  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup

  • garnish with a grapefruit twist

Fill a shaker (hot tip: in a pinch, travel mugs with lids work great) with ice and add all the ingredients except the grapefruit.

Shake, strain, pour, garnish.
