Sexy Kitchen Appliances
Hands down, my favorite room in any house is the kitchen. It’s impossible to not think of a kitchen when you think of a home-- it’s where SO much life happens.
The kitchen of our Yucca project is no exception. Not only is it, in my humble opinion, the gravitational center and beating heart of the whole place, but it’s also the room that underwent the most radical transformation. Pre-renovation, it was closed in, claustrophobic, and deeply dated. (There aren’t any photos of the original, which was so ugly it didn’t warrant camera roll space.)

The lion’s share of our work on Yucca went into the kitchen, and looking at the finished product, I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. We started out with a moody, dark moodboard, and realized pretty quickly that we were drawn to deep hues, organic textures, and imperfect wabi-sabi details.

The thing that our favorite inspiration images had in common? They sneakily omitted photos of appliances. It seemed that these prosaic machines had no place in beautiful spaces. Surely there must be a solution, we thought, scouring the internet for non-uglies..
Enter Café Appliances, a line of appliances from GE designed to be that exact elegant solution: machines so stylish that not only do they belong in Pinterest-worthy home shots, but that they might be worth photographing all on their own.
The matte black finish was unlike the stainless steel that seemingly all other brands seem outdatedly committed to, but it’s about more than colors with Café. Their appliances are so sleek, so well designed down to their handles, dials, and customizable details-- not only did they fit perfectly into the space we had designed, they complimented it.
(Shout out to that K-cup coffee maker, nestled in Café’s refrigerator door. Beautiful, and supplies caffeine? We love you. Never change.)
