OUR GUIDE TO A GREAT NIGHT’s SLEEP

When we started designing our 10-person rental in Yucca Valley, we made sure to pay as much attention to the bedrooms as we did to the shared spaces. It would be easy to focus on the great room or kitchen, but we believe that if you’re spending time in a vacation rental, you deserve really relaxing, thoughtful, and dare we say sexy bedrooms. Here’s a digest of our favorite soothing bedtime details.

1. soft, unfussy sheets— that feel really fancy

Coyuchi is known for organic bedding that feels like a dream, and let me tell you: that’s not a marketing line. Their linen chambray sheets have become a fixture in our bedrooms.

2. subtle, sexy lighting

I’m sure I’m not alone in my visceral distaste for overhead lighting. Personal vanity aside, it also washes out whole rooms. I’ll take the charming soft light of pendants and sconces instead of antiseptic LEDs. This Kichler pendant, with it’s industrial minimalism, casts an especially pretty light.

3. Plants!

To be perfectly clear, I’m not green thumb. I love plants (peep our Instagram if that’s news to you), but I’ve probably killed half of the ones I’ve ever brought home. It’s a practice makes perfect thing, and a few years into this hobby, I’ve locked in on the specimens tough enough to survive. No matter how hardy, they still bring life into the space.

4. the soothing scent of Palo santo

Not to knock a scented candle, but we’ve chosen sides and we’re team palo santo. Not only does it feels marginally safer to leave around a vacation rental , but the smell is deeply earthy, delicious, and at this point, the smell of home.

5. luxe pillows & mattresses

We’ve already shared that we’re huge fans of Leesa, both their mattresses and their pillows, but we’re so enthused that we’ll just say it again. They kindly outfitted all of our bedrooms, and almost every guest who has stayed in our Airbnb has asked about it.
